So the movie. Let me start by saying I HIGHLY recommend it! I laughed I cried. I thought it was great. Good story, well developed and portrayed characters, nicely shot.

So back right before my computer went down is when I saw the movie and while I saw some links to the movie and creativity class I didn’t really feel it was blog worthy until a friend of mine posted about it on myspace.

I originally read the post because I was excited someone else had seen the movie and liked it. However after reading her bulletin I think she missed the majority of the movie and was just a poser trying to like the movie because it is artsy and non mainstream. She was going on about how the mother character Deirdre played by Annette Bening is like very artsy and connected and all about releasing her inner artist and untapped subconscious muse.

I about vomited, the character is practical insane and drugged out for the most the movie. While she thinks she has this inner muse that people are miss interpreting she also has alot of mental issues.

This totally got me that this girl who was reviewing the movie was so wrapped up into and totally bought into the myths of creativity. Then I felt bad for judging so harshly and thought about which myths I bought into before taking the class, and while I haven’t really been able to come up with one I am sure they exists. I am also acutely aware that I am very glad to have had my eyes open and gained perspective on the whole issue.

That being said. See the movie.

Running with Scissors….Part II December 21, 2006

So I will start with Halloween last year. My sister and I did this race that was around Halloween every year and it was a 5K short three miler and it is done in costume. Now I thought it would be cute to all dress in costumes that run.

I first found Alice a cute puppy dog costume. Adorable when she walked the tail sorta had this wiggle to it.

Then I wanted to dress as a refrigerator but I wasn’t quite sure how to pull that off and still eb able to run. I thought it was a great idea…is your refrigerator running? You better catch it! I then moved on and this was the year all the Run away bride stuff had happened with that woman from Georgia who ran away and made the huge kidnapping lies and crap. So I decided to be a run away bride. Cute enough I thought. I didn’t look to hard but I checked out a few thrift stores and couldn’t find any old wedding dresses so is started looking at Halloween costume shops and you know what i figured out….people my age (20+) don’t want to dress up as Brides for Halloween, they want to dress up as Brides for weddings…it isn’t a popular costume( or made) in adult sizes unless it is a dead corpse bride….so I actually ended up buying a little girls costume with elastic and it worked out great because it was short enough on me i could actually run and not get tangled up, plus bonus it showed off my sexy garter belt!

Then there was my sister. She came up with the costume of running with scissors which i thought was also cleaver and adorable. She made this giant pair of scissors covered them with duct tape so the looked “metal” and fastened them so they really opened and closed. NO ONE got her costume. People kept asking her what she was doing. TWO people unrelated even asked her if she was a stylist. I was shocked at one but TWO people thought she was supposed to be a stylist, I thought that was really dumb, but at the same time clever because in no world would I have thought that and the fact they did kind of astonished me.

So for all of you that said you were thinking about going or said you thought about going… kick yourselves now. The races were absolutely insane cool. I can not even tell you adequately. That was the coolest thing I have done in a LONG TIME. I was impressed Red Bull did it up right…and not just because I got a VIP pass for the after party (yes feel free to hate me. I will share the details).

http://www.redbullsoapboxusa.com/

The cliff note version- races were not only judged on speed and design but what kind of show they put on before, during and after the race. There was also a peoples choice award (which went to WashU Students team). Cars had to roll on their own no engines ect and they dropped in off a forty foot ramp in the Muny lot in Forest Park.

Soap box Ramp at Night

They had no test runs. I myself knowing some of the drivers was a bit nervouse.

I will share a few of my personal favorites…

Superman

Superman-and yes a man layed down on top of him and rode him down. He wiped out and broke the dummy’s hand off but tried did finish but only before making the attempt to push with his feet look obscene. Great idea thought they were professional street luger’s and had a great idea if they hadn’t gotten messed up in the wreck. Another one with the same idea or a street luge that is worth noting– a team from St. Louis I don’t have pictures of was called Lucille. The team all dressed like blues brothers and one guy rode a guitar named Lucille down. They ended up being pretty fast I was impressed.

poperotate.jpg

While I wasn’t impressed with the car initially hence I have no photo’s of the mini pope mobile this team was probably one of the top three best performance wise. They had an awesome skit. The car while seemingly boring white mini pope soap box actually had a level that he pulled and it kicked the car up into wheelie’s and another lever and the car rode on the two side wheels! It was fricken HILARIOUSE! Also he would get out of the car run along side and high five people and get back in! I loved it. AWESOME Job!

Drunk Elvis

These guys were funny, the Drunk Elvis’s they were some semi corporate gig from California. They had some big financial backing, but they were drunk and they were all Elvis and they were funny. There was a wedding going on in the lower Muny lot after words and these guys go and take over the photo shoot. Great! Their car was FAST too.

Big Shark

Here is Big Sharks. While it isn’t as flashy construction wise other teams picked them to win due to the construction of the cart. They had like no show at all- it was more like lets stand around and act cool while everyone else who is cool is making us look like the dorks.

The first team to go literately disintegrated. Here is the picture recap.

spock1 spock2spock3spock4Photo credit to Grant Houston

When they wrecked they had to spend a half hour cutting a whole out of the ramp putting in new ply wood and recovering it. I about lost it getting nervous after that one! Here is the carnage of the baby carriage…

baby

Since I already borrowed a few of Grant s photo’s here is another few I borrowed and when I say borrowed I mean I am showing you without telling him….yet. love you Grant keep up the good work!

The Pope Mobile!popmobile.jpg

The People’s Choice Champion and WashU Student team Brainfart!Brainfartbrainfart2

One of my very few complaints with the day was sure this is cute-but wasn’t very fast wasn’t a great show but won people choice award..why because in my opinion you got to text your vote to rbull 72855 as many times as you liked for free and basically they had everyone they know do it over and over again…and what else better do college students have to do. And while sure any team could have done that I don’t really feel that it was a good representation of the True Peoples choice award.

And while I am ranting my only other complaint on the day was the judges. They picked some pompous wanna bee assholes to sit up there and throw numbers up, they weren’t even paying attention half the time not that the scores really mattered in the end, it was more of a crowd annoyance the judged got boo’d more then anything else. I am telling everyone I know at Red Bull how I thought that whole “judge” thing was a pile of crap. Wanna be B list Celebs and girls who thought they were hot….they sucked I openly boo’d them. And I am done! -=D

You know your in a baseball town when a team makes a derby car of the old Busch Stadium back when the cards weren’t even going to make the Playoffs and then they get to race the day after we become the WORLD CHAMPION SAINT LOUIS CARDINALS!

busch

It was a whole lot of fun for the rest of the race recap visit the WebSite. The guys that one had a pimp first class car. Was called fast food and it was Waylie Coyote chasing the Roadrunner it was SLICK and obviously fast. Cute old men did it! -=D

Big Shark ended up having one of the best wrecks of the day-it will make the commercial for TV-and yes they still managed to cross the line. Here is after carnage…

Carnage Thankfully no one was hurt during the course of the day. The whole event ( other then the texting and judges) was first class. Food, Beer Beverages, Sound System, Entertainment. KICK YOURSELF FOR NOT BEING HERE! Seriously! Tons of people came out. Was awesome.

The Vip after party was insane! They brought in red leather couches and flat screens all over the patio at the Muny and had Dj’s Bands and Catering, free food and Open Bar…YOU MISSED OUT!

Feel free to look into next years I hear rumor that it will Be in Seattle so far one a year this was the first ever in the States, there have been two previously in Europe. Flutogg is also worth noting that is the creation of flying machines they take and try to launch off an Air Craft Carrier!

Stir Crazy October 15, 2006

So I love this restaurant I am not sure if you are familiar with it or not here’s the link feel free to check it out—

http://www.stircrazy.com/fresh.htm

I am a big fan of Asian food, and love stir fry. The idea behind this restaurant is you pick your meat you pick rice or noodles what kind of rice what kind of noodles then you get a wok and you go up to a salad bar with everything fresh you can possibly think of and you choose what to put into your stir fry. Any combination of veggies, spices and so on. There are like 8 sauces to choose from you can mix if you want to. Then you hand it to chef who cooks it in front of you adding the meat and whatever else you have chosen.

Now what does this have to do with creativity you might ask? Well stir crazy came to mind back in the beginning of the class and it has resonated true with a few topics we have touched on. Mainly I see links with Knowledge and goodness of fit.

As far as goodness of fit, back in my rant on hair I explained hair is not my gift. Neither is food really. I can follow a recipe, I can make more then the average undomesticated female but I wouldn’t say it is a gift. I could become better if I worked at it, but that is more knowledge and practice and I don’t have the disposition, drive or motivation to do it quite frankly. Same thing with hair. Some people are just born with that “goodness of fit”. I wasn’t born having it for say soccer the way that some of my girl friends growing up were naturally better then me. But I worked and I practiced to be able to play at their level.

Anyways back to stir crazy. One of my best friends from highschool and I used to go to this restaurant together and Dan loved the idea but he wasn’t very knowledgeable of how food and certain “tastes” and or flavors go together or shouldn’t go together he would throw everything he possibly liked into the same wok. And he always hated what he created and wouldn’t eat it.

I like that all the wok always come out different. I like that i get to make my food how I like it. But I posses a limited knowledge of the food I like or I try to get suggestion from people who are more knowledgeable then me on things I should try.

I recommend trying the restaurant. Huge servings kinda a neat experience.

I love St. Louis. I try to rep it up when ever I can. I support local business's. I'd rather pay more to the little guy then live in a world of boring corprate bullshit. So I love the loops. I love it'd ethnic, edgy, counter culture, cultured feel. I love that it is pretty much soo St. Louis. I even love subway and ben and jer-though they are corprate imports.  I love the Tivoli. I am a movie addict and I am into artsy films. I belong to the St. Louis Film society. So I frequent alot of landmark movie theaters for films that aren't really mainstream. So Wesday I was doing my thing and went and saw Why We Fight at the Tivoli. A documentry on the Military Industrial Complex of the United States. I really liked it.  (Insert war rant here.) I love my boys that are over there fighting and it is so emotional to let go of them and know they might not come back and they choose to go over, and it is over such stupid bullshit as proetcting our economy. *sigh* They frustrate me. Two of my silly best friends. Breaking my heart. Anyways I highly reccomend it.

So I am walking down the loop crying and bitching out my friend for being a marine after the movie (isnt that nice of me to be supportive) it is around 9:ish at night. People out flyering I am used to it. I spend alot of time on the loop. My sister manages a store there, which i work at sporadically but have a huge loyalty too. As well as all my friends that I have made from being a loop rat and hanging out at my sisters store. I am collecting the flyers and carrying bags from shopping earlier that day- proof I am a shopping addict and I support the loop. Take the flying-walking talking…and then about at Sunshine daydream a girl offers me a flyer i go to take it and realize it is the same one, do her a favor spare wasting a copy I tell her no thanks I already have one, keep walking.

The girl who appeared to be all of 15 says "No bitch go up to that store up there."

The store is relatitivly new. I havent been in it yet, but I had been meaning to stop by and check it out, espcially after the flyer from the first gentleman.  I shurg it off and keep walking acting like it didn't happen. Her friend gets in front of me  while she kinda pinned me in from behind and gets in my face aggressivly and saying "Go in the fucking store" While the first girl knocks the ponytail out of my hair. So she didn't quite hit me, but hit me! WTF what a way to run a business and get people in to your store. I am so shocked I don't do anything but laugh and keep walking my friend on the phone, who was the resident bad ass in highschool is freaking out hearing all of this.  I am like whatever, I can't belive that just happened! So I go to Jimmy Johns and get a sandwhich. I go home and tell my sister what happened and she cant belive it either.  I resolve to find out who owns the store and speak to them about it. Not so much that I care about what happened to me, but that I love the fricken loop. And what if it had been some one else. My worst fear is that it had been or will be somone else. Some one, thier first time on the loop, and thats thier experice. Makes me sick to my stomach. These small local business's work hard, and atttracting people and promoting and foot trafic alot goes into it, and no little punk girls should be out ruining that.

Flash forward to Saturday. I worked for my sister all day and then headed over to FiFi's to hang out with Kelly untill she closed. While in there Martina who cuts hair inbetween Kelly's Store and My sisters comes in with friends and starts ranting about the Antagonist- the store who the little girls where repersenting. I asked what it was like, they said nothing special and make fun of a few things, and then I relay my story from the other night. They also are shocked…but really who isnt. That was some random experince. Kelly informs me she knows who owns it. I ask if she can put me in touch and she is already dialing her phone. She talks to them for a second and says "here is the store manager they seem really intrested in hearing your story".  I relay the story..and they apologize, i get the feeling he is afraid i might press charges or something. But I keep saying I don't care, just wanna protect the loop. He thinks he knows who i am talking about and will handle it.  So I guess I did my part. I may still check out the store…probabaly not. But who knows. I still love the loop. These stores I highly recommend from my story! -=D

Tattoo’s and Haircuts->sluts and nuts March 28, 2006

This is a kick back to last Tuesday.

So I really have this great story but I am not quite sure how to tell it with out offending or disclosing to much information…my luck at this rate you will all alreayd know these people and tell them I am blogging about it and I can cry and slit my wrists of something dramatic to that effect.

Brief pre-history about me. I am a huge fan of 80% of tattoos. They are pretty bad ass…that or trashy…but that badass ones.. I am a sucker for. I don't have any and sometimes I wish I did. I made an appointment once with a friend of mine on the last day of finals first semster freshman year back up in canada had already met with the artist had it sketched out and was finishing up my final and find out my buddy who I had made an appointment with had gotten out of his final before me and left with out me…and to me the whole point was I didn't want to go alone…*rolls eyes* So I don't have any. Not that I absolutely can't find anyone to go with me…but now at 22. I have gone this long with out getting any, why start now. I went through my piercing stage. I am easily addicted I wouldnt know where to stop.

So lately I have been on this new kick- partly Angelenia Jolie inspires, part Brad the buddy who ditched me out back in freshman year, and part this guy in one of my classes who used to work at a shop who I am "hanging out with frequently" recently. And when I sat  "hanging out frequently" I really mean that. It isn't really dating, but might be, were both admited were attracted to each other, but havent and not sure if we want to do anything about it…so litteratly we just hang out and sometimes I think we a just to darn similar for anything between us to work out and I would hate to loose him as a friend. THAT BEING SAID…it is always fun to have hot guys as friends!

So I am getting my hair cut like I do every six weeks and talking to the girl who does my hair about wanting a tattoo finally. I have picked two that I think I want and one that I am 90% sure I am ready to do. I am telling her all this a. because she is covered in tats and I admire her and am jelouse but couldn't really do it myself. Secondly her boyfriend is an tattoo artist. Now–when i hear this i ask her if he does a certian technique…that i had seen it done and that it is in fact what I want done…she says she isn't sure but will ask…but she had a exboyfriend who had what i wanted done on his arms and tells me what it said…I think I about passed out in my chair…she totally had what is said wrong..but this was my friend she was talking about and I knew it…so ten minutes later i get the balls to ask her if it is….this girl is cutting my hair after all! Dangerouse position for me to be in! And it totally is and she is like " YOU KNOW HIM!?" and I am a horrible liar and am like "yea…" She goes on to tell me that he cheated on her with a married woman and that the married womans husband is out to kill him and he had to leave the state and is in hiding and about thier sex life and on and on, and somwhere in there I mutter I don't really know him it was along time ago trying desperately to change the subject but she won't have it so I just mumble listen. I admit a part of me was stabbed and in shock. And of course i hadn't even left before I am calling mysister and telling her…and she is going into a pitty party for me like wtf…

I drove home wondering why girls are attracted to bad guys. Is it that we want to be the special one to change them? Why is it that even though a part of my heart is remembering all my past hurt I don't really care. My sister asked me what I was going to do, and well being me I told her give him shit about it of course! Although for abou 30 seconds I will say I thought about just blowing him off the rest of my life what a jerk and liar and a scum bag…..then I thought about what certain guys from my past would say about me….ouch. I have my own past history that is less then stellar and that I am less then proud of. Who am I to judge.

That night he text messages me we play the text game for a few and we finnaly end up talking before we meet up and I mean I was trying to hold this in. I had to bring it up, and I didnt want to wait and act like I was hiding something, and I was down right tickled to see what he had to say..and a part of me didn't care- I like him for who he is good and bad, just like people accept me and some of the shitty things I have done.

I told him I had a funny story…I think he could tell it was going somewhere I sensed nervouseness in his voice. I think that he could hear the sarchsim in my own. I told him he would laugh I promised him I laughed. I started out…sooo…I got my 6 week hair cut today..and he just stops and goes "Oh god where do you get your hair cut…" and I told him to quit interuppting that , that point was EXACTLY where this was going and to shush and listen. So i recapped for him and we both laughed and he felt the need to explain his side even though I told him not nessicary. He did anyways and whatever i didn't care before and i didn't care afterwords. He was caught off guard that i brought it up and he said he was amazed at how secure i was and most girls wouldn't have done that and would have been really insecure and jugemental…soooo after reminding him that i am NOT most girls.. I am P-Rex– i walked him through my though my thought process and explained what i have told you all and that there are always two sides to every story…and see as how he had clearly not fled the state and was not in some proection agency I wasn't to worried about her credibility…though it was a good laugh and I think i might have to find a new hair dresser.

All this over a tattoo…which ironically this guy and I share another similarly related story. So like i said he worked in a shop before and we discuss tattoos quite often esp. with me being preoccupied by them right now. And one night we were out drinking and for some reason i start ripping on this girl who had a tattoo on her neck. Whatever some can be hot but what stood out to me about this one was that is said…and I sat behind her in a class and had to stare at it every class and I always though about what it said…and I told him and made some joke and he looked at me and was like…"Dude I totally dated that chick. I am not kidding"…and he had….and I was very apologetic and embaressed and didn't really know what to say, and he said it wasn't a big deal and i was right about what it had said on his arms! HaHAH! I win…and I won major cool points for being an open minded un judgemental girl who wasn't afraid to bring stuff up! What could have been bad turned out really good.

So there..TWO incidents involved one of the same people in both about random tattoos linking people that never would have ever ben recongnized or known or identified. I will say i am FREAKED OUT. I don't want to be that identifiable…this is a pretty big  world what are the odds!!!  While i was driving home I was back to my old self of I am never going to get a tattoo after hearing that story. Keep the skin pure and beautiful…but it didn't last long.

I will have to link the site with tattoos i like and see what you guys think of my ideas. Didn't you enjoy how vague this was! Just wait till I put the pictures and some flavor up!

I am a fan of lower back tattoos on chicks. Tramp Stamps…ya whatever they are hot…esp when girl wear low rise jeans and like half the tattoo sticks out….yea I wish i had one. I was thinking a fairy. I love fairies and I have for years I have tons of them all over my house. I collect them and what not many people know this about me. So i had this awesome tattoo i created and this guy up in seattle working on it and doing a concept sketch and then my friend bashed it for me. He told me that 90 of girls get fairies and hearts and flowers. Broke my heart I don't wanna be like all the other girls out there….granted this was a personal creation not to mention a fairly large tattoo to a naked fairy with hair over her face and rainbow wings with flowers on both sides..i am a sucker for nature too. I <3 Trees. -=P   I don't wanna be a cliquche sell out…so I put it on the back burner even though this is a very person image for me he really shook me up.

So then I also think wrist tattoos are pretty darn hot guy girls…hot! And the hippie in me is very into "one Love" and I was thinking at first I'd get a red heart on my foot really small and have it say one…well same guy ruined this one for me too by informing me that your foot regenerates skin very quickly and due to the circulation they fade out very quickly and this is a horrible place for them…I though it would be a great first step…small easily hideable and I like tattoos on feet though I don't like feet at all. So once he ruined my foot idea he suggested wrists but while this unlike the other is HIGHLY visable. So i am thinking maybe do it in a color that isn't really noticable. I am super pale and could pull it off maybe and I was thinking of using this heart symbol i have drawn to represent the same thing but makes it even more personal.

NOW i am pondering maybe a lion like on the ethopian flag that is wearing a crown and holding a flag or septer/staff/thing and perhaps put flowers in his mane on my lower back…I am a leo..were lions and it is a very romantic idea for me..though I think it is a very masculine thing to have tatttooed. I have some ideas I will link when i get home, I would definatly have to think through it some more I have just been pondering it this week and been saving images i like. I started out thinking the crested lion also known as the dancing lions on ancient crests… i liked this but i think it would be better in black and white…and I could almost do one on onside of my lower back…but then what on the other…. But I like color on the lower back…and I like the idea of magisty and i like realistic looking lions which is easier to work with in prancing striding lion of the ethopean type flag lion.

Thoughts, comments and general responses always appreciated and welcome! ESP concerning my tatoo ideas. I know your supposed to get them for you..and I would only get one if it was for me..but ya know other people have to see them so you might as well get feed back! Whatch me never get one and all this time and enegery I have put into this…hehe it has been fun..and p_tricia if you are reading this I can't wait till your tattoo becomes a reality. It is beautiful and it is you. I am so excited! <3

Mangos For nukes….This one goes out to Steve… March 21, 2006

Sooo, inspired by Steve's blog..I braved it home in the snow, ice and other wise elements to have my heart ripped out… My internet is gone. SOOO, my sister and I needing out nightly fix of interneting it up- snag the the four wheel drive and head to where else….Coffee Cartel. Maybe I will meet someone sketchy to write about..I can hope right? Time for a mango smoothie and maybe a wrap in the mean time…I will be sure to keep you all updated….and I forgot my camera at home dah! /delete /re-roll

Ahhh Yes 12:16 my first encounter. As i order my Strawberry Mango Smoothie the nice Gentle Man in black leatherpants behind me in line says, "Mango?" I respond, "Strawberry Mango". I am quite sure he could sense the giddiness in my voice. He asked me if I knew what that mango was worth. I told him no…not quite sure where all this was going. He then informed me that in his current affiars class they were studying that G. Bush traded Nuclear information to India for mangos and that I had better enjoy my smoothie. About this time my smoothie is placed on the counter and I  take a sip and smile and say "Totally worth it."  All the while questioning this. I am pretty concerned and envolved in enviormental issues, this has my curosity..sure enough… I return to my seat google it and here you go… Mangos for Nukes! Enjoy
